Strabismus is when the eyes are not parallel to each other in the basic gaze position. Eye shifts can be inward or outward, up or down. Routine eye examinations in childhood are very important for the diagnosis and early treatment of hidden deviance, refractive errors, and small angle shifts that families cannot notice. For this reason, even if there is no problem, it is necessary for children to have regular eye examinations starting from the age of 2 months.
Strabismus can be diagnosed with normal examination methods. Here, it is very important whether there is laziness due to slippage and whether the slippage can be corrected with glasses. Untreated slips can cause visual impairment as well as being aesthetically disturbing. Since laziness will develop in the deviated eye, both vision is low and the sense of depth (three-dimensional vision) decreases. Lazy visual acuity (Amblyopia) due to strabismus should be treated until the age of 8-9. However, babies with congenital (congenital) strabismus should be treated as soon as possible. Otherwise, visual laziness is inevitable.
